If you’re looking for somewhere a little different to drop in for a tea or coffee, and perhaps a bite to eat, the quintessentially English surroundings of Ruddington’s Old Bakehouse Tearoom are well worth a try.
In a world where so much has been changed by COVID-19 – including the new ‘Test & Trace’ app QR code scan box on the counter, customer ‘one-way system’ and ‘socially distanced’ tables – these new measures ensure Lesley Wells and her staff can serve you in safety whilst continuing to go that extra mile to make you feel welcome and at home.
The March 2020 Coronavirus closure, followed by reduced opening hours for a while, allowed time for a complete refurbishment of the interior, whilst still retaining the traditional village tea shop feel which was created when it first opened in the summer of 2012. Brand new flooring, a fresh paint job and eye catching new wallpaper, alongside rather more ornate tables and seating, are among the latest improvements which greet customers to 58, Church Street.
The Old Bakehouse Tearoom is now back open again six days a week, and the decor isn’t all that’s changed: “We have a brand new menu and a brand new chef” explains Lesley. “We’re also up to standard with all the COVID-secure requirements. That means we can’t get as much seating in now, but we’re trying to sort everybody out as best we can.” One of the way they’re ensuring this is to offer advance bookings over the ‘phone or via their Facebook page >>HERE<<.
Although trade is still quieter than before, Lesley adds: “It’s been really nice to see people coming back and be able to say hello again. Please keep supporting your local businesses through this – because it’s use us, or lose us, I’m afraid!”

The Old Bakehouse Tearoom is open from 9.00am to 3.30pm Mondays to Saturdays but pre-booked ‘Afternoon Teas’ can be taken until 5.00pm. You can even take in your own alcoholic drink to make it a special occasion, although remember current government rules mean parties are restricted to six people. Lesley also offers takeaways and outside catering. Enquiries, bookings and orders can be made during opening hours on 0115 9846126 or via the Facebook Page.
Be sure to call in and see Lesley and her team as part of your #RuddyGoodDayOut in our lovely village!
